Hunter Nation & Western Justice Announce Strategic Alliance to Delist the Gray Wolf
While Western Justice was not first to this fight, we took on the responsibility of organizing, building, and expanding a unified national movement, ensuring the voices of those directly impacted are represented at every level of decision-making.
In response to growing challenges in gray wolf management, Western Justice Legislative Fund led the formation of the nationwide Wildlife Oversight & Land Use Front (W.O.L.F.) Coalition. Bringing together agricultural communities, sportsmen, conservationists, outfitters, rural stakeholders, and policy advocates, forming a nationwide effort focused on restoring balance through science-based wildlife management.
Under Western Justice’s leadership, the coalition has rapidly grown into one of the largest alliances of its kind, now encompassing more than 2,400 organizations and entities representing approximately 2 million stakeholders nationwide. This coalition stands as a powerful, unified voice for responsible stewardship of America’s land, wildlife, and rural communities.
A Landmark Partnership to Advance Science-Based Wolf Management
Building on this momentum, Western Justice Legislative Fund has partnered with Hunter Nation to form the Hunter Nation & Western Justice Delist the Gray Wolf Coalition. This collaboration represents a monumental step forward in the effort to correct longstanding mismanagement and bring meaningful reform to federal wolf policy. By uniting Hunter Nation’s national legislative influence and advocacy leadership with Western Justice LF’s deep ties to rural and agricultural communities, the coalition is uniquely positioned to drive lasting change.
Our Mission
The coalition is focused on two clear and urgent objectives:
Delisting the Gray Wolf: The Endangered Species Act (ESA) was designed to support species recovery and ultimately remove them from federal protection once recovery goals are met. The gray wolf has reached that milestone. It is now time for federal policy to reflect this reality.
Ensuring States Follow a Federal Management Mandate – Varying state laws have disrupted effective wildlife management and created serious challenges for ranching communities. States must meet or exceed federal management mandates to ensure consistency across all jurisdictions, as wolves do not adhere to state boundaries.
Restoring Balance in Wildlife Management
Across the country, growing wolf populations are creating significant and measurable impacts on livestock, wildlife herds, rural economies, and public safety. For those who live and work closest to the land, this is not a theoretical issue, it is a daily reality.
This coalition stands for practical, science-based conservation. We support responsible wildlife management that balances ecological health with the needs of people, communities, and rural livelihoods. Effective conservation requires accountability, data-driven decision-making, and respect for those on the front lines.
